Rep. Jarrells Announces Over $850K in Student Success, Workforce Training Investment at Columbus State

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board allocated a total of $857K in funding to support students and faculty at Columbus State Community College.

Columbus State will receive $857K to replace audio-visual equipment in classrooms, update student and faculty computers, and purchase equipment for their workforce training programs.

“I am proud that these dollars are going to advance Columbus State’s model for community-centered workforce development. By investing in these programs, we not only enhance the educational landscape but also empower students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the workforce and in our communities,” said Rep. Jarrells.

Details about the projects approved are:

  • The Classroom Audiovisual Technology Upgrade project will involve updating several audio-visual controls and projectors, expanded network connectivity, and audio-visual switchers which are outdated and no longer supported at the Columbus campus.
     
  • The IT Student Lab Computer Upgrades project will involve updating student and instructor PCs that are outdated, and no longer supported by the vendors' warranty programs.
     
  • The purpose of the Workforce Based Training & Educational project is to support education and skill training of Aviation Maintenance Technician students to meet the demands of the aerospace industry and private sectors. The project will also support education and skill training needs for students pursuing careers in the healthcare industries.
