Rep. Jarrells Announces Nearly $1M in State Funding to Columbus State

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus) yesterday announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved $930K in state funding to Columbus State Community College.
Columbus State will purchase approximately 0.14 acres of land located at 183 Jefferson Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. The property includes a 5,000-square-foot, six-unit residential apartment building. The Institution of Higher Education will use local funds to complete the purchase, and no student fees will be used for the acquisition.
“The Controlling Board’s approval is a long-term investment in the future of our workforce and our regional economy,” said Rep. Jarrells. “By expanding Columbus State’s Automotive Technology program and constructing modern training facilities, we are laying the foundation for sustained job growth, industry innovation, and expanded opportunity for generations of students. This project strengthens our ability to meet the evolving demands of the rapidly growing automotive sector in central Ohio while ensuring our community remains competitive and economically resilient for years to come.”
This purchase supports Columbus State’s capital plan, Making Central Ohio Stronger: Educational Facilities and Technology Plan, and represents a strategic step in advancing the college’s long-term facilities and infrastructure goals.
