COLUMBUS – State Representatives Dave Dobos (R-Columbus) and Don Jones (R-Freeport) recently introduced legislation that will recalibrate the State’s approach to education in an effort to better serve Ohio’s students for career readiness.

This bill seeks to improve the academic achievement and workforce skills of our students, to drive better outcomes in their education, and to prepare for more effective career readiness.

“Now is the time to really put Ohio’s students first,” Dobos said. “We will define precisely the roles of all the key players.”

The bill also restructures the Department of Education to create a state cabinet-level agency called the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW), which will consist of two divisions: the Division of Primary and Secondary Education, and the Division of Career Technical Education. The goal is to promote communication and collaboration between schools and education leaders to ensure accountability and transparency.

“Ohio’s students will always be our top priority,” Jones added. “It is our responsibility to ensure the state is giving these kids the best opportunities for success in every capacity and to continue our current system is to support decline, and that is unacceptable.”
