State Rep D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) announces that significant funding was approved today for both the Ohio Veterans Home located in Sandusky and for Lake Erie protection. The funds were approved on Monday by the State Controlling Board during their meeting.

“This is an opportunity for the veterans home to advance technologically and enhance efficiency when it comes to their medical records, which is important for any entity and especially one supporting our veterans,” Swearingen said.

Swearingen supported House Bill 597 this year, which included many capital reappropriations across the state. The release of these capital funds will provide the dollars for improvement services to the Ohio Veterans Home’s electronic medical records system. The total includes $228,397 to be split with Brown County.

Additionally, Swearingen notes his support for the state operating budget bill signed into law last year that included funding for Lake Erie protection approved at today’s meeting. In total, $850,000 was approved today for the Ohio Lake Erie Commission to improve conditions for Lake Erie.

“Our community wants an environmentally healthy lake.  Lake Erie is one of the region’s and Ohio’s greatest assets,” Swearingen added. “These investments are going toward improving and protecting our freshwater lake to keep it clean, safe, and healthy for residents of Ohio and all who visit.”

The next State Controlling Board meeting is scheduled for Sept. 19.
