State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron) announces the Ohio State Controlling Board has approved a local $1 million project through the Development Services Agency (DSA) for a Roadwork Development Grant in the City of Huron. Swearingen applauded the measure coming to the 89th Ohio House District.

“Most of us from Erie and Ottawa Counties know how much COVID-19 has impacted our economic climate,” said Swearingen. “With that said, it’s very promising that the region is able to attract competition and economic development – more jobs is a great way to help our citizens climb out of the hurdles of this pandemic.”

The project is allocating $1 million in funding for public roadwork improvements through the Roadwork Development Grant in support of Ardagh Metal Beverage USA Inc. The project intends to be a full reconstruction of the existing Sawmill Parkway corridor. The project will begin at the Rye Beach Road intersection and continue eastward until the eastern terminus of the roadway.

In order to complete the initiative, 211 new full-time jobs will be created.

Roadwork Development Grants are awarded for public roadwork improvements that support the expansion or attraction of businesses. Eligible costs include widening, paving, road construction and reconstruction, and right-of-way infrastructure improvements such as sewer or utility lines.
