COLUMBUS – State Rep. Crystal Lett (D-Columbus), alongside State Rep. Mike Odioso (R-Green Twp), State Senator George Lang (R-West Chester), and State Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus), are proud to announce the creation of the bipartisan, bicameral Developmental Disabilities (DD) Legislative Caucus.

“I will make sure individuals with developmental disabilities and their families have advocates at the Statehouse who are listening to their experiences and fighting for their needs,” said Rep. Lett. “This caucus will help bring attention to the policies that can improve and expand opportunities. I’m proud to work alongside my colleagues and community to build a more inclusive Ohio where every person has the support and resources they need.”

“When Rep. Lett and I brainstormed ideas to promote our shared passion to be a strong legislative voice for the entire I/DD community, it was rooted in our shared personal experiences in raising children with special needs,” said Rep. Odioso. “Creating this new DD Legislative Caucus is a foundational step.”

The newly formed DD Legislative Caucus held its first well-attended meeting on Monday, May 11th, at The Childhood League Center in Columbus. Panelists included the caucus co-chairs, Ohio Department of Children and Youth Director Kara Wente, and Ohio Department of Developmental Disability Medical Director Dr. Laura Sorg.

The DD Legislative Caucus serves as a collaborative forum dedicated to advancing policies, sharing experiences, and supporting initiatives that improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families across Ohio.

Participation in the caucus provides an opportunity to:

  • Engage in discussions on key issues affecting individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Share insights, resources, and feedback on DD programs/services.
  • Collaborate on policy development and advocacy efforts.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and legislative priorities.

The Developmental Disabilities Legislative Caucus plans to meet quarterly moving forward.
