A new bill in Ohio proposes making it a felony to take items from gravesites.
House Bill 879 would expand existing vandalism laws to include the removal of memorials like flowers or flags.
Violations could result in a fifth-degree felony charge and a fine of up to $2,500.
The bill was introduced in May and has been referred to a committee for review, but the legislature is not in session again until November 2026.
