COLUMBUS – State Rep. Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today issued a statement in honor of “Ohio Military Family Month,” which recognizes the unique sacrifices of Ohio’s military families.

“Given my own history as a military spouse, Ohio Military Family month is very personal to me,” said Rep. Russo. “I appreciate and honor the unique sacrifices Ohio’s military families make to ensure our safety and security.  Returning the favor by putting families first, even if they are only in our state for a two or three year military assignment, is the least we can do.”

Since the beginning of the 133rd General Assembly, House Democrats have passed a number of bills to support military families, including:

  • House Bill (HB) 133 (Weinstein): To grant licensing reciprocity for active duty military families. HB 133 was consolidated into Senate Bill (SB) 7, and was subsequently signed into law in Jan. 2020.
  • HB 18 (Crawley): To exempt veteran’s disability severance payments from the state income tax. HB 18 was signed into law in Feb. 2020.
  • HB 287 (Russo): To allow reciprocity for Medicaid home and community-based service waivers for the family members of active-duty military when families move to Ohio for military assignment. HB 287 was signed into law in June 2020.
