Extremists Shamelessly Promote Hate, State-Sponsored Bullying With Passage of Anti-Trans Bill

December 13, 2023

COLUMBUS - House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today denounces the passage of House Bill (HB) 68, anti-trans legislation, that would ban gender affirming care and ban trans kids from participating in sports.

“The lives of children were used as political pawns by extremists more worried about their own political future rather than the future of innocent kids. All we did today was endanger the lives of trans children, normalize even more the hate the LGTBQ+ community continues to face, and turn our backs on evidence-based science. I’m simply disgusted by it all,” said Leader Russo. “It is a fundamental freedom that medical decisions are between youths, their families, and medical providers – not extremist politicians. I will be asking Governor DeWine to veto this bill and that he prioritize the dignity and safety of all Ohioans.”

So far in 2023, there have been more than 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in states across the US. This is just one of many factors prompting the Human Rights Campaign to declare a “State of Emergency” for LGTBQ+ Americans.

House Democrats continue to put people first and will always stand with the LGTBQ+ community, championing legislation that protects their rights and recognizes them as vital members of our communities, no matter who you are.
