Brian Lorenz News

State Representative Brian Lorenz (R-Powell) today held a press conference to announce a new piece of legislation – the Ohio Fusion Energy Advancement Act – which will establish a framework to support the development of fusion energy in the state.

“Ohio currently imports a significant portion of the energy we use - leaving our economy and families vulnerable. This bill is about taking control of our energy future. Fusion energy promises clean, reliable, and abundant power, and Ohio must be a leader, not a follower,” said Lorenz. “By creating the Ohio Fusion Energy Working Group, we’ll bring together our top scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers to remove barriers, grow our workforce, and create new economic opportunities. Join us at the press conference to see how we’re making Ohio a hub for energy innovation.”

This bill will also create the Ohio Fusion Energy Working Group, who will be tasked with identifying regulatory gaps, assessing workforce and supply chain needs, and recommending economic development strategies for fusion energy. The group would include representatives from state agencies, universities, fusion and electric utility industry leaders, and it will report annually to the General Assembly. Five years after its first report, the group is required to reconvene and propose regulatory or legislative changes, and one year later, after submitting its recommendations, the group is dissolved.

This bill awaits a number and committee assignment. To watch the full press conference, click here.
