As someone who has worked tirelessly with our community’s most vulnerable generation, I have made it a priority to continue that work at the Ohio Statehouse by fighting to ensure our children are best equipped for the path that lies ahead. In the 14 months I have spent in Columbus thus far, I am very proud of the legislation that the Ohio House of Representatives has passed to benefit youth across Ohio. Specifically, there are three bills that the Ohio House has worked on to ensure the safety and success of our young adults.

State Representative Tony Burkley (R-Payne), in collaboration with the Ohio Attorney General’s office, today hosted an organizational meeting in Defiance to help address Ohio’s drug epidemic. The goal of the meeting was to gain knowledge on the status of Defiance County, located within the 82nd Ohio House district, in regards to combatting the epidemic.

A vibrant economy starts with a welcoming business climate. A welcoming business climate is one that is respectful of our entrepreneurs and employs a common-sense approach to regulation and taxation. There are many initiatives aimed at helping Ohio businesses succeed, in addition to attracting new business investment within the state. One indispensable program that is aimed at getting regulations right is the Common Sense Initiative (CSI).

Our local small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and are what helps our local community to thrive. In order to support small businesses, like those in the Central Ohio area, the Ohio House of Representatives recently passed legislation that would allow local wineries to sell their products at farmers’ markets. House Bill 178 is a great way to support small businesses and encourage our community to shop locally.
