Each year in the United States, suicide claims over 41,000 lives – more than war, murder, and natural disasters combined. On Tuesday, June 23, 2015, from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the largest suicide prevention organization in the United States, presented the 2015 Allies in Action State Award to State Representative Marlene Anielski (R-Walton Hills) for her exemplary work in preventing suicide, the silent epidemic. More than 240 AFSP volunteer field advocates from all 50 states were in attendance as part of the organization’s Advocacy Forum.

State Representatives Nathan Manning (R-North Ridgeville) and Stephen Huffman (R-Tipp City) today applauded the passage of Amended House Bill 188, legislation that updates consult agreements between physicians and pharmacists in Ohio. The bill also increases to a 30-day supply, from 72 hours, the amount of a drug that a pharmacist can dispense without a prescription to a patient.

The Ohio House of Representatives today concurred on House Bill 6, legislation that extends the limitation time for prosecuting rape or sexual battery from 20 to 25 years.

The bill is nicknamed “Goddard’s Law” after long-time Cleveland weatherman Dick Goddard, who for several years has passionately advocated strengthening penalties for animal abuse.

The Ohio House of Representatives has passed House Bill 237, which establishes uniform insurance requirements for Ohio’s transportation network companies (TNCs) and self-employed drivers.
State Representative Anne Gonzales (R-Westerville) applauded today’s passage of Senate Bill 110, sponsored by Senator Dave Burke (R-Maryville). SB 110 seeks to permit advanced practice registered nurses with prescriptive authority to delegate the administration of certain medications for patients to qualified individuals, and changes the laws governing the practice of physician assistants to allow them to practice to the full extent of their training by removing statutory barriers to practice and updating provisions.

COLUMBUS— The House Transportation Committee today passed House Bill 335, legislation to designate a portion of State Route 163 in Ottawa County as Ottawa County Veterans Memorial Highway, announced bill sponsor, State Rep. D.J. Swearingen (R-Huron).

COLUMBUS –State Representatives Sara Carruthers (R-Hamilton) and Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today held a press conference on Aisha’s Law, legislation that directs the Attorney General to adopt rules to require training on evidence-based lethality assessment screening tools in peace officer basic training.

COLUMBUS –State Rep. Jon Cross (R-Findlay) today approved the increase of over $3.9 million in funds to the State Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) during a State Controlling Board meeting, increasing the current appropriation to more than $7.4 million.

COLUMBUS –State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) and Angie King (R-Celina) announced that the Ohio Senate passed House Bill 34, legislation to exempt nursing mothers from jury duty.

COLUMBUS–The House Insurance Committee yesterday held sponsor testimony on House Bill 400, announced bill sponsors, State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake). House Bill 400 aims to extend Medigap coverage to patients in Ohio diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). While ESRD and ALS patients are federally eligible to receive Medicare Part B Coverage, Ohio does not allow them to purchase Medigap coverage.

COLUMBUS – The House Transportation Committee yesterday unanimously passed House Bill 350, which will dedicate a portion of State Route 44 between Mentor Avenue and Prouty Road as Lance Corporal Austin B. Schwenk Memorial Highway, announced State Representatives Jamie Callender (R-Concord) and Daniel Troy (D-Wickliffe).
