State Representative Mark Johnson (R-Chillicothe) recently introduced House Concurrent Resolution 27 – legislation that would support use of state land for a new Veterans National cemetery in Chillicothe, Ohio.

“The Chillicothe VA Medical Center is rated in the top five in America in providing quality care, along with being one of the very first Veterans hospitals in the nation. It sets on close to 400 acres of land that was once part of the massive Army Training Center known as Camp Sherman,” said Rep. Johnson. “The State of Ohio was transferred thousands of acres of this former federally owned facility, much of it is still not utilized today. H.C.R 27 extends our desire to utilize several hundred acres of Dayton National Cemetery to establish a new National Cemetery which would be centrally located south of Interstate 70.”

Rep. Johnson testified on this bill in the House Veterans and Military Development Committee. You can watch his full testimony here.

Ohio has nearly 700,000 veterans, which is the 6th largest veteran’s population in the United States. In addition, there are thousands of active duty, National Guard, and Reserve members in Ohio who are currently serving.

House Concurrent Resolution awaits further consideration in committee.
