Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) has released a statement confirming that the updated omnibus budget bill will include a measure providing funding for the cost of mailing out absentee ballot applications to voters.

“As the process of finalizing the state budget moves forward, I am working with my colleagues on including additional provisions into the finished product. After further discussion with Secretary Husted and my colleagues in the House, language appropriating funding for the cost of mailing out absentee ballot applications for Ohio voters will be included in the omnibus amendment to the state budget. We want to give Ohioans as much opportunity to vote as possible and this amendment will help accomplish that.”

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted released the following statement in response to this announcement:

“I commend Speaker Rosenberger and members of the Ohio House for hearing our concerns and including funding to mail absentee ballot applications in the state budget,” Secretary Husted said. “Encouraging voters to cast absentee ballots reduces the chance of long lines at the polls on Election Day and will help ensure Ohio is prepared to run another smooth presidential election.”

Finance Committee will continue to hold hearings on House Bill 64 this week, with an omnibus bill planned for introduction next week.
