Speaker Householder hires Statehouse Veteran as House Chief of Staff / Majority Legal Counsel

COLUMBUS –Shawn Kasych submitted his resignation from the position of chief of staff of the Ohio House of Representatives effective January 8, 2019. Speaker Larry Householder stated that he appreciates Shawn’s dedication and service to the House.

Speaker Householder has named Statehouse veteran Jonathon L. McGee as chief of staff and majority legal counsel for the Ohio House of Representatives, effective immediately.

“Jonathon is a trusted, detail-oriented professional who is well-respected on Capitol Square,” said Speaker Householder (R-Glenford). “His experience in the legislative, legal and regulatory arenas will be a tremendous asset to the Ohio House and its members.”

From 2001 through 2004, he served as majority legal counsel for the Ohio House of Representatives under Speaker Householder, and became chief of staff for Householder in 2004.

McGee has more than 25 years public and private sector experience. His background includes serving as deputy chief legal counsel under Gov. George Voinovich, and work as an attorney at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ compensation and he served as Vice Chair of the State Employment Relations Board. He currently serves as executive director for the Ohio Cable Telecommunications Association, who he was affiliated with for over ten years.

McGee is a Kenton native and graduate of Ohio Northern University. He earned his law degree at The Ohio State University.
