Speaker Batchelder Releases Statement on April Job Gains

Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina) today released the following statement on Ohio’s April unemployment rate:

“With Ohio’s unemployment rate dropping to 7 percent, we are showing continued improvement in terms of our economic competitiveness, job climate, and business growth. During the month of April, we saw the creation of 7,600 jobs—jobs that are helping to put food on the table for Ohio families and get people back on their feet.

“We are continuing to move in the right direction and prioritize economic development, a pledge we made to Ohioans at the beginning of the previous general assembly. Since that time—when Republicans regained control of the Ohio House and Governor Kasich took office—Ohio has created nearly 150,000 private-sector jobs. While we have made tremendous strides to get Ohioans back to work, we still have much more to do. My colleagues and I in the House look forward to working with Governor Kasich and the members of the Ohio Senate to continue this progress toward a stronger, more prosperous Ohio.”
