Rep. Ritter Highlights Public Transit Funding Award for Athens County

State Representative Kevin Ritter today announced that Governor DeWine recently awarded $160,000 to Athens Public Transit to acquire a 30-foot expansion bus to its fleet.
“I have seen the challenges that finding reliable transportation poses in our region of Ohio,” said Ritter. “These funds will help Athens County residents travel to college, work, and other destinations.”
In House Bill 54 – Ohio’s State Transportation Budget – the General Assembly appropriated $15 million per fiscal year for the Ohio Workforce Mobility Partnership Program, which supports public workforce transportation in rural and urban areas of Ohio. The program provides funding for infrastructure, equipment, technology, vehicles, and planning projects.
With this funding, Athens County Transit will increase capacity and reliability for routes servicing Athens City and surrounding communities. Thes additional vehicles will help meet growing demand, reduce overcrowding, and ensure consistent access to key employers like Ohio University and other major retailer on East State Street.
