State Representative Kevin Ritter (R-Marietta) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of funding for two important renovation projects at Hocking College in Athens.

The Controlling Board approved the release of capital funds in the amount of $130,295.00 and a competitively released opportunity in the amount of $118,450.00 for the design and installation of a new HVAC system at the Drone Education and Training Lab, on the main campus. Currently only two-thirds of the building is air-conditioned and reliant on the original hydronic boiler system from 1969.

Through the project, air conditioning and forced air heating will be installed to service the remaining two-thirds of the building, fully decommissioning the obsolete boiler hydronic system. According to Hocking College, the upgrade will provide efficient, reliable climate control for instructional and lab areas, ensuring the renovated facility meets current academic, safety, and operational standards.

The Controlling Board also approved the release of capital funds in the amount of $220,000.00 for professional design services for the Hocking College Culinary Lab Renovation project. According to Controlling Board documents, the renovation will focus on key infrastructure upgrades and functional redesign of instructional spaces.

“I’m very pleased to see funding approved for various updates at Hocking College,” said Rep. Ritter. “These upgrades will help ensure students have the opportunity to study in an environment conducive to learning, setting them up for a successful future.”
