Rep. Richardson Applauds Resolution Aimed at Strengthening Our Elections by Placing Voter ID Requirements in the State Constitution

State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) is highlighting a joint resolution that will strengthen Ohio’s election process, putting a constitutional amendment before the voters this fall to enshrine Ohio's Voter ID laws in the state's Constitution. 

Senate Joint Resolution 10 would require voters to provide photo identification in order to vote in Ohio’s elections. The resolution specifies what constitutes a valid identification – specifically requiring individuals voting in person to provide a valid, unexpired government-issued photo identification.

“I voted in favor of SJR 10 to ensure that voter ID is a requirement enshrined in the Constitution,” says Richardson. “I encourage the public to exercise their American right and get out to vote this November.”

Currently, Ohio law requires citizens to provide voter identification before voting, as approved through the Legislature in December 2022. Current law also allows individuals to obtain initial and renewed state ID cards at no cost for Ohioans 17 and older. 

By codifying these requirements in Ohio’s Constitution, the joint resolution will ensure the integrity and long-term security of our elections.

With the adoption of the resolution, the question will appear on the November ballot.
