State Representative Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg), and Erin Rolfes, Corporate Affairs Manager of Kroger’s Cincinnati-Dayton Division, held a press conference today to discuss and promote the upcoming sales tax holiday. The sales tax holiday will take place from Friday, August 3rd to Sunday, August 5th.

“The Ohio sales tax holiday is a win-win. It is a tax cut for working families with kids going back to school and a summer boost to our retailers when business is usually slow for them. I am excited this law is now permanent and that there will be a sales tax holiday the first weekend of August every year,” Rep. Antani said.

As provided in SB 226, the sales tax holiday is now permanent going forward for the first Friday through Sunday of August each year. Items that are exempt from sales tax include clothing priced at $75 per item or less, school supplies priced at $20 per item or less, and school instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.

“We are very excited to offer these great deals to our customers and help them save even more during the tax holiday,” said Erin Rolfes, corporate affairs manager, Kroger, Cincinnati/Dayton Division. “Our customers are looking for ways to stretch their dollars further and these offers help them do just that.”

The first sales tax holiday in 2015 generated an extra $4.7 million in consumption, and consumers saved approximately $3.3 million, according to a study produced by the University of Cincinnati.
