Today the Ohio House of Representatives assembled in a joint convention with the Ohio Senate to present the Ohio Military Medal of Distinction to the families and loved ones of six service members who died while serving our country.

Created in Senate Bill 248 of the 127th Ohio General Assembly, the Military Medal of Distinction honors Ohio’s fallen service members and their families on behalf of the State of Ohio. This year’s presentation included Speaker of the Ohio House Clifford A. Rosenberger (R-Clarksville), Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) and Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor, who presided over the joint session.

Speaker Rosenberger released the following statement regarding the presentation of the Ohio Military Medal of Distinction to this year’s recipients:

“I was honored to welcome Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor and Senate President Keith Faber to the House to present the Military Medal of Distinction to the families of Ohio’s servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country. During this ceremony, we join together as a General Assembly to recognize these families and also to remember those who are serving every day to protect our freedoms, American ideals and safety.

It is important we show gratitude and appreciation to our fallen heroes. The Military Medal of Distinction helps us to take a moment to meet with these families and remember their loved one’s bravery, love of country and selflessness. All of the families will be in my prayers as they mourn the loss of these service members, and my heart goes out to them during this time. It is my sincere promise that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.”
