COLUMBUS—The Ohio House of Representatives today honored Brutus Buckeye during the Ohio House session in celebration of his 50th anniversary as mascot of The Ohio State University. Brutus was presented with a resolution that was sponsored by Representative Niraj Antani (R-Miami Township) and Representative Michael Stinziano (D-Columbus).

The university has been celebrating Brutus’s 50th anniversary throughout this school year, celebrating his original debut in the fall of 1965. The year long celebration is intended to raise money for scholarships for the students who appear as Brutus at many university events, most notably during Ohio State football games.

“As a proud, recent alumnus of Ohio State, it was an honor to celebrate Brutus Buckeye’s 50th anniversary,” Rep. Antani said. “Brutus has not only represented Ohio State for the past 50 years, but he has been an ambassador for all of Ohio throughout the nation.”

Joining Antani and Stinziano to present the resolution were all the Ohio House legislators who represent portions of Franklin County.
