The Ohio House Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee today held its second of four hearings at Shawnee State University in in Portsmouth yesterday. The committee, chaired by State Representative Dr. Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City), held a graduate medical education panel to discuss healthcare models in Northwest Ohio that the Ohio House can help support and promote.

“This marked the second hearing of the Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee,” Huffman said. “This hearing centered on behavioral health and the many complexities that surround Scioto County and all throughout the state. Committee members learned about the importance of preventative care, access to care, collaboration and community involvement in ensuring that Ohioans receive high quality and affordable health care. I would like to thank the many individuals that came out for yesterday’s hearing.”

“It was a great opportunity to host the Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee at Shawnee State University,” said State Representative Terry Johnson (R-McDermott), who represents Scioto County. “We are, as a community, doing many positive things to address our health issues, some of which are shared across our great state, and some that are more specific to our region. I think it was beneficial for the committee to hear about the positive steps we have taken to make improvements, and what the state can do to help us.”

The next meeting of the Ohio House Healthcare Efficiencies Study Committee, the second of four planned meetings around the state, will take place on September 16th in Cleveland.
