House Committee Begins Hearings on Bill to Establish Frontier Technologies and Quantum Computing Commission

(COLUMBUS, OHIO)—State Representative Heidi Workman (R-Rootstown) is pleased to announce that that House Technology and Innovation Committee today received sponsor and proponent testimony on House Bill 650, legislation to create the Frontier Technologies and Quantum Commission.
The bipartisan initiative aims to bring lawmakers and industry experts together to study and provide recommendations on the rapid advancement of emerging technologies with significant economic, ethical, and security implications, like artificial intelligence, quantum developments, cybersecurity, and robotics.
“House Bill 650 creates a responsible and structured way for Ohio to study and strategically position ourselves in frontier technologies and quantum innovation,” said Rep. Workman during sponsor testimony. “It ensures that Ohio is not simply reacting to technological change but actively shaping how it unfolds within our state.”
The commission will be made up of eight members: four members of the House of Representatives and four members of the Ohio Senate. Members of the commission will hear testimony from industry experts.
“It is incumbent upon us as legislators to fully understand what we’re dealing with and prepare forward-looking policies to ensure these developments protect, uplift, and preserve the greater good and security of all Ohioans,” added Workman.
House Bill 650 awaits further consideration by the House Technology and Innovation Committee.
