COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sharon Ray (R-Wadsworth) recently provided sponsor testimony before the House Workforce and Higher Education Committee on House Bill 25, legislation to establish the Foster-to-College Scholarship Program. Ray is sponsoring the legislation alongside State Representative Dontavius L. Jarrells (D-Columbus).

House Bill 25 will level the playing field for foster youth pursuing higher education by ensuring scholarships are available to youth who have been in foster care from the age of 13 onward. The bill will allow scholarships to be used for a range of educational opportunities, from trade schools and community colleges to four-year universities.

“House Bill 25 is a vital step toward helping foster youth overcome financial barriers and empowering them to achieve their educational dreams,” said Ray during sponsor testimony. “By providing both financial assistance and the dedicated support needed to navigate higher education, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these young people and give them the tools to succeed.”

House Bill 25 awaits further consideration from the House Workforce and Higher Education Committee.
