COLUMBUS – State Rep. John Patterson (D-Jefferson) announced today that he is launching the Education Funding Caucus, a bipartisan discussion group for members of both the Ohio House and Senate that will seek to solve problems related to funding for Ohio’s public education system.

“As we return to session this fall, there obviously remains much work to be done,” said Rep. Patterson.  “One area of concern still troublesome for all members of the legislature, deals with issues related to school funding.  An issue that is so wide-ranging and in-depth is difficult to address given the necessity to pass a balanced budget within the first six months of a new legislative session.  The pressure to pass a budget is enormous while the time to freely inquire and vet potential solutions is short.”

“After consultation with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and from both chambers of the Statehouse, I decided the best path forward will take an effort that promotes reflective inquiry without the confining constraints of time,” continued Rep. Patterson.  “I invite all members of the Ohio General Assembly to join this effort, so we can explore together a host of issues pertinent to education.  As our composition and interests grow, I foresee experts from around the state and nation advising and informing our group on a regular basis with respect to our pressing needs and concerns.”

The Education Funding Caucus will use its findings to make recommendations for legislation to the state’s legislature.  The first caucus meeting will be held in late-October and will be open to the public.
