Rep. Foley: Too Many Without Jobs this Holiday Season

Latest job report reveals high unemployment still plagues Ohio

Democratic Newsroom

COLUMBUS- The state jobs report  for Nov. was released today, showing Ohio well-above the national unemployment rate with 427,000 Ohioans still looking for work. The U.S. economy is growing at the fastest pace since late 2011, but Ohio lost 12,000 jobs last month and the state’s unemployment rate continues to trend much higher than last year. State Rep. Mike Foley (D-Cleveland) released the following statement in response to the news:

“Today’s latest job report affirms that Ohio won’t be able to recover from its lagging economy until Gov. Kasich starts prioritizing people over special interests. The very same people who were looking for jobs last month are still searching for jobs this month as the number of unemployed Ohioans remains the same. This is the third month in a row that our unemployment rate is trending well-above the national average, and there are 37,000 more people looking for work right now than at this time last year. Gov. Kasich’s top-down, tax-the-poor approach has put many middle and working class families between a rock and a hard place this holiday season, as they are forced to decide whether to buy gifts for their children or pay the rent and electric bill.”
