Tuesday, the Ohio House Democratic Women’s Caucus hosted a Women’s Lobby Day to discuss issues of concern to women and working families across our state. The event featured legislative briefings, an expert “How to Lobby” training from former Rep. Nancy Garland, and keynote speaker, Kathy Groob, a former elected official and author of Pink Politics. This thirdWomen’s Lobby Day brought together over 60 women from all across Ohio to get involved with their state government and to meet their representatives.

“Ohio women’s voices are critical in the policy discussions that impact their lives and communities,” said Rep. Antonio.

The Women’s Caucus members took the opportunity during the day to discuss bills they are working on that specifically affect women. Rep. Antonio, a leader on health issues, discussed key policy initiatives focused on women’s health and safety issues with attendees, including recent attempts to defund family planning centers including Planned Parenthood-- a vital preventative healthcare provider to women across the state. Rep. Antonio also discussed the impact of Medicaid Expansion on women’s access to healthcare.

“This program provided an extensive and comprehensive overview of issues and proposed policies that directly impact Ohio women and their families,” said attendee Judith Pindell. “The Women’s Lobby Day gave me an opportunity for my voice to be heard and to ensure women’s health is a priority. It was a powerful experience.”

“Members of the Delta Sigma Sorority Inc. joined with the Democratic Women’s Caucus to promote women and power with a day of activism, networking, and build greater opportunities for collaborations in advocacy for issues important to women,” said Meredith Turner, Ohio State Social Action Chair of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. “I am looking forward to next year.”

Also participating throughout the day were: Reps. Bishoff, Boyd, Reece, Pillich, and Heard.
