New study indicates lottery did not increase vaccination rates in Ohio

House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) issued a comment Wednesday following the release of a study which found that Ohio’s Vax-a-Million lottery was not associated with an increase in the state’s vaccination rate. 

 
 
Says his bill goes further than GOP plan to help keep older Ohioans and those with disabilities in their homes

State Rep. Daniel P. Troy (D- Willowick) issued a statement today urging further hearings on House Bill (HB) 207, his legislation to update Ohio’s Homestead Tax Exemption program. Rep. Troy says his bill would go further to help keep elderly Ohioans and those with disabilities in their homes than the more limited legislation announced today by Republican Reps. LaRe and Stephens.

House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) issued a statement Thursday following 14 budget bill vetoes by Gov. Mike DeWine, which included several provisions Democrats opposed that would threaten quality, accessible healthcare for low-income Ohioans as well as a partisan provision that would undermine the redistricting reforms Ohioans passed in 2015 and 2018.

DeWine to veto Senate Bill (SB) 52, controversial legislation that would let local governments restrict wind and solar energy project development on public and private property, which Democrats say attacks clean energy jobs and limits the state’s ability to compete for emerging technologies. 

 
 
Announcement follows Democratic calls to address health disparities among black Ohioans
