House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) recognizes March 8th as International Women’s Day. Now in its 110th year of celebration, International Women’s Day is recognized in multiple countries as way to acknowledge and uplift women worldwide.

“International Women’s Day is a time for us to celebrate women for the contributions we make in our cities, state, country and world,” said Leader Sykes. “This year we witnessed the very first woman to serve as Vice President of the United States, a significant achievement. We still have a long way ahead of us to achieve equality for women worldwide, but we can all play a part in uplifting, supporting, and advocating for the women around us.”

This year’s 2021 theme, “Choose to Challenge”, is meant to serve as a reminder to show support and solidarity to each other by celebrating women’s achievements and calling out inequity.
