Rep. Mathews Highlights Federal Natural Disaster Relief for Ohio Farmers

State Representative Ty Mathews (R-Findlay) today announced that the USDA Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) application is now open. This program provides critical financial assistance to farmers impacted by natural disasters in 2023 and 2024. A total of $16 billion in federal funding is available. 

"Ohio’s farmers are the backbone of our state, and I know firsthand the toll that natural disasters have taken on our rural communities these past two years,” said Rep. Mathews. “The opening of this federal disaster relief program means real, timely help for families still recovering from losses beyond their control. I encourage all eligible producers to apply and make use of these vital resources so they can continue feeding Ohio and the nation.”

Eligible producers include those who suffered losses as result of natural disaster occurring in calendar years 2023 and or 2024. These disasters include the following:

  • Wildfires
  • Hurricanes
  • Floods
  • Derechos
  • Excessive heat
  • Tornadoes
  • Winter storms 
  • Freeze (including a polar vortex)
  • Smoke exposure
  • Excessive moisture
  • Qualifying drought, and related conditions. 

To apply for SDRP, producers must submit the FSA-526, Supplemental Disaster Relief Program (SDRP) Stage One Application, in addition to having other forms on file with FSA.
