Hall Issues Statement on Removal of Language to Protect Ohioans from Property Tax Increases from State Budget

COLUMBUS –State Rep. Thomas Hall (R-Madison Twp.) today issued a statement regarding the removal of a provision in the state’s main operating budget that would modify how property values are calculated to address the recent increases in property taxes throughout many Ohio counties. 

“While I was successfully able to secure three other pieces of legislation into the state budget, I was disappointed to learn that in the last hours of conference committee, the decision was made to cut the language from House Bill 187 that the Ohio Senate had added. This deletion is going to be detrimental to not only Butler County, but to all counties up for property revaluations during this cycle. Our work is not over on this issue, it has just begun. I look forward to continuing this discussion and reform efforts this fall when the legislature returns.

House Bill 187 will require the Tax Commissioner to weigh the past three years of a county’s property values in order to determine property tax. The legislation is currently in the House Ways and Mean
