COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today honors Black History Month and the contributions Black Ohioans have made to our state.

“I’m proud to support and co-sponsor pieces of legislation that have been brought forth by my Black colleagues in both the House and Senate,” said Rep. McNally. “Their work on issues affecting minorities in Ohio will improve the lives of our Mahoning Valley residents.”

At a news conference Wednesday, members of the House Democratic Caucus detailed their People First Agenda legislative priorities addressing systemic inequalities and to help support and lift up the Black communities across Ohio.

House Democrats are committed to creating a state that works for and supports all Ohioans, regardless of race, gender, income, and zip code by championing the following legislation:

  • Capital budget appropriations (Reps. Upchurch, Cutrona)
  • Increase transparency with the inmate and the public during the process through parole board hearings (Reps. Humphrey, Stewart)
  • Creation of a certificate of qualification for housing to support returning citizens in finding housing (Reps. Humphrey, Seitz)
  • Mandating incarcerated women access to unlimited menstrual products (Rep. Humphrey)
  • Anti-school lunch shaming (Reps. Mohamed and Brewer)
  • Expungement for minor marijuana offenses (Rep. Mohamed)
