COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $6,741,082 in Department of Development (DEV) Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) water infrastructure grants for the City of Youngstown, the City of Columbiana, and Mahoning County.

“Clean drinking water and good hygiene can be the deciding factor in a child’s development,” said Rep. McNally. “We have to get the basics right in order for our community to reach its full potential.”

The Ohio BUILDS grants, funded by the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act enacted in the first months of the Biden Administration, are intended to boost the economy after the COVID pandemic and improve access to clean drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.

Recipients of funds in Ohio’s 59th district include:

·         $4,839,300 for the City of Youngstown to replace and upsize the sewer along the Mahoning River, covering the area between Division Street and West Avenue by installing 10,800 linear feet of 60-inch and 48-inch sewer, allowing for a larger storage capacity and the elimination of certain combined sewer overflows, a direct benefit to 127,000 people.

·         $1,316,824 for the City of Columbiana to install 16,000 feet of water line, connecting the Crestview Road wellfield to the water treatment plant and providing high-quality drinking water to the residents of Columbiana and Fairfield Township, a direct benefit to 6,400 people.

·         $584,958 for the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners to replace 3,985 linear feet of 6-inch waterline, construct 18 new gate valves, five fire hydrants, and 35 water services on the East side of Lake Milton as well as replacing 2,935 linear feet of 6-inch waterline and constructing 12 new gate valves, five new fire hydrants, and 43 water services on the west side of Lake Milton, a direct benefit to 113 people.
