Rep. McNally Announces Funding for Youngstown Armory National Guard Facility

Lauren McNally News

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Youngstown Armory will be included in the state’s upgrade plans for some of its National Guard facilities. The state is investing $106,526.70 to upgrade and install LED lighting for safety, security, and energy savings for three Ohio Army National Guard facilities, the Youngstown Armory, Alliance Armory, and Green Readiness Center,

“I’m glad that our region was included in this investment,” said Rep. McNally. “Upgrades like this will more than pay for themselves in the long run.”

The funding request, made by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC), will be used to contract with B & J Electric of Poland, Inc. in North Lima to replace existing inefficient interior lighting fixtures and exterior building – and pole- mounted lighting fixtures with highly efficient LED luminaries. The most recent retrofits, conducted 15 years ago, are nearing the end of their useful life and would be costly to maintain. The request estimates that the more efficient upgrades will save $24,811 annually and that they will pay for themselves in 3.9 years, with additional savings generated over the rest of its estimated 10 to 15-year life.

The $106,526.70  in funding from the General Assembly, appropriated via HB 687 in the 134th General Assembly, are capital funds and part of the $2 million allocated to be used by the OFCC Office of Energy Services to award to state agencies for energy related projects (Energy Conservation Projects).
