COLUMBUS- State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) is honored to announce her appointment to the Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging by the speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.

“This opportunity to represent the interests of our seniors, not just in Youngstown but on behalf of the Ohio House, will build off my committee assignments that are focused on the economic, health, and general wellbeing of all Ohioans. It will also help us advocate for seniors by passing legislation I have introduced, like HB 3, that would create modern, affordable housing in our state that seniors disproportionately need the most,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m very grateful that Minority Leader Russo and Speaker Stephens entrusted me to be their voice on this Advisory Council and to do this important and necessary work.”

Representative McNally will be one of four members from the state legislature serving on the council, alongside 12 governor-appointed members and the directors (or their designees) of the state departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services, Developmental Disabilities, Health, and Job and Family Services, all of whom represent the interests of older adults, their caregivers, and organizations that serve older adults.

“Ohio’s population is aging, and that’s true in the Mahoning Valley, too. Sharing the experiences of my neighbors with this Council, and being able to bring their needs directly to the governor’s administration, will hopefully get our community the attention and investment it rightfully deserves,” said Rep. McNally.

The Ohio Advisory Council for Aging guides the director of the Ohio Department of Aging on issues and opportunities affecting older Ohioans, serving as ambassadors for the department at local events and with community groups and gathering information and ideas from their neighbors to share with the director of the department. In this role, Representative McNally will also recommend administrative and legislative actions, review agency plans, and more.
