COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $4,450 in funding for Goshen Township and Poland Township as part of Ohio’s 2023 Cemetery Grants.

“Where we lay our loved ones to rest is a heavy decision. Keeping their burial grounds beautiful in honor of their memories and lives is a testament to our devotion,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m thankful these townships are invested in that work, and that the state can be a partner to the local governments in this capacity.”

Part of the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing in the Ohio Department of Commerce, Cemetery Grant Funds are intended to help cemeteries improve recordkeeping, restore monuments, repair fencing, and improve signage. The grant is for qualifying not-for-profit and local government cemeteries and helps defray costs of exceptional cemetery maintenance or training cemetery personnel in the maintenance and operation of cemeteries. The application period opens every year in July and $104,000 in grants were awarded to 45 nonprofit cemeteries throughout the state as part of this year’s funding cycle.

Competitive grants awarded in Ohio’s 59th district include:

·         $1950 for Bunker Hill Cemetery, operated by Goshen Township, for the purchase of a cement mixer and materials to repair foundations

·         $2500 for Lowellville Cemetery, operated by Poland Township, to conduct a survey of the cemetery with ground penetrating radar.
