COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that $3,012,048.70 has been approved by the Ohio Controlling Board for the purpose of renovating buildings on Youngstown State University’s (YSU) campus.

“This funding allows for necessary renovations to ensure that our university continues to provide excellent educational opportunities,” said Rep. McNally.

The first of two funding requests approved by the Ohio Controlling Board includes renovating the exterior brickwork of Bliss Hall, Beeghly Center, Debartolo Hall, and Maag Library, at a cost of $1,836,119 to be performed by Trisco Systems Inc. from Lima, OH. The second request includes replacing exterior doors and windows across several campus buildings while addressing security and accessibility issues, at a cost of $1,175,929.70 to be conducted by Alex Downie and Sons Co., based in Youngstown. The capital funding for these projects comes from several appropriations bills including House Bill (HB) 529 of the 132nd General Assembly, Senate Bill (SB) 310 of the 133rd General Assembly which included unexpended and unencumbered cash remaining in the federal Coronavirus Relief Fund, allowing the Controlling Board to extend deadlines on distributing funds, and HB 687 of the 134th General Assembly.
