COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced the state Controlling Board approved $290,389 in funding from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities’ (DODD) Community Capital Assistance Program for the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

“Every person deserves to live with dignity, and these state dollars are a reflection of that,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m happy the state is supporting updates and expansion of housing options in our area, most especially for those with developmental disabilities.”

The funding from the General Assembly, appropriated by House Bill 687 in the 134th General Assembly, supports the department’s Community Capital Assistance Program, which provides community assistance funds for the development, purchase, construction, or renovation of facilities for day programs or residential programs that provide services to persons eligible for services from the Department. The funding will be used to develop community housing for people with developmental disabilities who are or will be receiving waiver services including, people leaving a state-operated developmental center, leaving a private or county-operated intermediate care facility, people who prefer to live in their community but who have complex care needs that make it difficult to receive services outside of a developmental center or intermediate care facility, and people on a county board of developmental disabilities' waiting list for waiver services.

When funds are available, DODD will fund up to 120% of a county's median home value as determined by the Ohio Development Services Agency. The purchase price of the home cannot exceed 110% of the appraised value of the home per OAC 5123-1-03. The use of these funds is secured by a 15-year participation contract between the funding recipients and the Department. In this release, the Ohio Controlling Board approved 156 projects in 41 counties, totaling $8M in investment around the state.
