Rep. McNally Announces $2.5M in Workforce Housing Grants
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that The Ohio Department of Development (DOD) awarded $2.5M to Youngstown in Workforce Housing Grants. This grant will be used to fund 220 infill housing units and improve roads, sidewalks, and lighting around the units as well. This opportunity comes from the Residential Economic Development District (REDD) program.
“Investing in workforce housing developments is an investment in our community. We are making sure that those who are helping build our communities are set up for success. This is a smart project that is what Youngstown needs,” said Rep. McNally.
The grants total $9.2M to support workforce housing developments in five communities near major economic development projects. These grants will fund more than 1,400 housing units. Workforce housing refers to homes that are affordable for middle-income workers who earn too much to qualify for traditional low-income housing assistance but still struggle to pay rising market-rate rents. The goal is to ensure that communities can retain a stable labor force and that workers can live close to where they work.
