COLUMBUS - State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $1,878,000 for Fiscal Year 2025 for Mahoning County as part of Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) Local Major Bridge Program.

“These federal dollars put people to work and help us live in our communities more safely. This is a significant, direct investment in the people of Mahoning Valley,” said Rep. McNally.  “I will always work to make connections at the state level that support local governments and the people they serve.”

The Local Major Bridge Program provides federal funds to counties and municipalities for eligible bridges. The 238 identified bridges in Ohio with a moveable/lift bridge or a bridge having a deck area greater than 15,000 square feet, in need of replacement, rehabilitation, demolition, or major preventative maintenance will receive funding. Bridges must also be open to vehicular traffic unless it is a demolition project, or the bridge has been closed for five years or less. The fund allocation is currently set at $20 million annually with ODOT providing up to 80% of eligible costs for all project phases, with projects not exceeding a maximum $20 million.

The Mahoning County Market Street Major Preventative Maintenance project includes updates to the Market Street bridge with new lighting, fencing, and pier repairs. It is the project’s first time receiving these federal funds and is among 17 projects and nearly $59.5 million in investment throughout Ohio. The funding expansion to the program, an additional $47.5 million annually over five years, was made possible by the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure law which requires Ohio to invest $15.6 million into bridges owned by municipalities, townships, and counties.
