COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) announced that the State Controlling Board approved $1.18 million in support for Youngstown State University meant for renovations to one of the STEM buildings, Moser Hall, which is home to the engineering, physics, and geological science departments on YSU’s campus.

“I want Youngstown, and our entire state, to support our people from cradle-to-grave, no matter where their pursuits take them. If they’re fortunate to choose Youngstown State University, then I want them to have the best educational experience possible,” said Rep. McNally. “Higher education and investment in students will always be important to me.”

The Ohio Controlling Board Request funding released on April 24, 2023 supports the second and final phase of the project, intending to be completed during the short summer break. The project includes upgrades to dated, worn interior finishes, replacement of flooring, replacement of ceilings, replacement of outdated and inefficient lighting with new LED fixtures, upgrades to restroom facilities, upgrades to entryways that will address ADA issues, and minor upgrades to the HVAC and mechanical equipment in the Main lobby and other spaces. The released dollars will enable YSU to begin construction.

The work proposed to Moser hall will also consist of upgrades to the heavily utilized auditorium and additional classrooms. It marks the first overall interior renovation to the heavily used building in several years.
