COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved $11,075,744.85 for the Ohio State Penitentiary for updates to their HVAC system. There are approximately 475 HVAC dampers throughout the facility. The project will also upgrade damaged or deteriorating HVAC system equipment, replace actuators and components to the Johnson Controls System, and replace and install of approximately 80 fire alarm heads and bases. This project will be administered by the Ohio Faciliities Construction Commission (OFCC).

“I recently had a chance to visit the Ohio State Penitentiary and understand the need to keep such a large complex updated and running smoothly. I am thankful to the Controlling Board and the OFCC for this opportunity in District 58,” said Rep. McNally.

The prison was able to partner with an Ohio based company for the project and the work will be completed by a construction group from Cincinnati, Ohio. The Ohio State Penitentiary, located in Youngstown, was opened in 1998 and is the only “supermax” prison in the state. It is one of 28 institutions that the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections operates.
