State Representative Newman Applauds Recent Announcement Regarding Japan's $33 Billion Investment in Ohio

State Representative Johnanthan Newman (R-Troy) is pleased to share that President Trump announced last week that Ohio was selected to house a $33 billion natural gas power plant project, the largest in Ohio and the United States’ history.
This is one of the first projects coming from a $500 billion investment made by Japan as part of a trade deal made in 2025. The facility will be operated by SB energy in Portsmouth and is expected to provide thousands of jobs for the community as well as enough energy to power 7.4 million homes.
"This will be a massively important investment in the State of Ohio – helping homeowners who are bearing the weight of increasing electric bill prices,” said Newman “The bottom line is we are not producing enough electricity, so prices are increasing. Proponents of the ‘Green New Deal’ type policies have betrayed Americans. We must put a stop to their destructive ideas and make Ohio electricity great again."
The announcement coincides with projections that U.S. natural gas demand is expected to increase significantly through 2035, largely fueled by the growing data centers and needs of energy-intensive computing infrastructure.
