Mentor Marsh Awarded Substantial H2Ohio Grant

COLUMBUS—The Ohio EPA awarded an H2Ohio grant to be used towards water quality efforts in the Mentor Marsh, announced State Representative Jamie Callender (R-Concord). The Ohio EPA announced this round of H2Ohio grant funding during at an event hosted at the Mentor Marsh State Nature Preserve.

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History will receive $500,000 in grant funding to be used towards the Mentor Marsh Coastal Restoration Project.

“Every year, thousands of people will visit the Lake Erie shoreline for family gatherings, picnics, or simply enjoying a day at the beach,” said Callender. “We have a responsibility to protect and maintain the natural parts of our state so that generations to come are able to enjoy the natural beauty found in Lake County.” 

According to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Mentor Marsh is one of the largest natural marshes that still exists along the Lake Erie shoreline and is Ohio’s first state nature preserve. 

The Ohio EPA awarded $2.8 million in H2Ohio grants for ten projects that will improve water quality in Ohio.
