Ohio House Passes Bill to Designate EMS Week in May

COLUMBUS- State Representative Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) announced that the Ohio House of Representatives recently passed House Bill 311, a bipartisan bill he sponsored that designates the third full week of May as “EMS Week” in Ohio.
The bill, joint sponsored with Representative Erika White (D-Springfield Township), honors the dedication and bravery of Ohio’s emergency medical service (EMS) providers, including paramedics, EMTs, dispatchers, and first responders.
“Access to EMS personnel is especially necessary in more rural communities like my own district,” said Rep. Hoops. “These crucial services are often the only immediate source of emergency medical personnel, especially in regions with existing healthcare disparities and long-distant hospitals and medical centers.”
The week-long recognition would not only work to spotlight the diverse roles within the EMS field but also emphasize the essential services they provide during emergencies and everyday healthcare situations.
The bill now moves to the Ohio Senate for consideration.
