Speaker Huffman and Representative Workman Welcome Florida Governor DeSantis to Ohio for Discussion on Setting Congressional Term Limits
Speaker of the Ohio House Matt Huffman (R-Lima) and State Representative Heidi Workman (R-Rootstown) today welcomed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to the Ohio Statehouse to discuss House Joint Resolution 3 (H.J.R 3), legislation that calls for Congressional term limits through a convention of states.
“We were honored to welcome Governor DeSantis to Ohio and hear firsthand about the initiatives he’s leading around the country,” said Speaker Huffman. “I’d like to thank Representative Workman for advancing this issue through H.J.R 3 and for bringing attention to something that’s important to the State of Ohio.”
H.J.R 3 calls for a federal convention of the states for the purpose of proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to institute term limits for members of Congress. The resolution specifies that the application is valid only for the purpose of a convention that is limited to considering congressional term limits.
“It was an honor to stand alongside Governor DeSantis and Speaker Huffman today as we work to advance this important resolution,” said Workman. “Ohioans are demanding real accountability from Washington, and House Joint Resolution 3 is our way of answering that call. Governor DeSantis has been a national leader on this issue, and I’m proud to have recently introduced legislation that incentivizes Ohio to step up and join the fight for term limits and restore the voice of the people.”
Governor DeSantis has championed this initiative in Florida, which is one of twelve states that has passed resolutions applying for a convention of states. These efforts have helped initiate a growing national movement to rein in federal power and restore constitutional principles through state-led action. Once 34 states have passed the resolution, it would prompt a convention of states, strictly enforcing congressional term limits.
“D.C. will never fix itself,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “Term limits will change the incentives for members of Congress from focusing on reelection to focusing on tangible accomplishments.”
House Joint Resolution 3 awaits further consideration in the House Government Oversight Committee.
