COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) hosted a series of Summer Sessions this summer as a part of her initiative to assist constituents with reclaiming their unclaimed funds.

The event follows the passage of the Ohio state operating budget (HB 96), where Ohio Republicans by majority allowed the billionaire Haslam family to take $600M in Ohio’s unclaimed funds to build a new Browns stadium.

“Public trust begins with protecting what belongs to the people. Hosting summer sessions to help constituents reclaim these funds was essential. Unclaimed funds are the rightful property of Ohioans, not a windfall for the government. Yet, a state budget provision allowing these dollars to be redirected to sports stadiums is a harmful overreach. The state has a custodial responsibility to return this money, not exploit it for unrelated projects. These summer sessions aimed to safeguard these funds and ensure they are returned to their rightful owners, helping restore and preserve public trust,” said Rep. White.

Rep. White, partnering with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE), helped Ohioans understand what unclaimed funds are and assisted them in searching for and reclaiming their money. Each session was at capacity, and it was incredibly rewarding to help so many Ohioans reclaim money that is truly making a difference in their daily lives.
