Rep. White Hosts Event Celebrating 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Ohio

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) last week hosted an event celebrating 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day in Ohio, recognizing the historic contributions of the women and the recent signing of Senate Bill (SB) 17 by the governor. The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion was the only all-Black, all-female battalion deployed overseas during World War II and was responsible for clearing a massive backlog of mail for American troops.
“These women were an essential part of American and Ohio’s history. Taking the time today to commemorate these women and their accomplishments is essential. In a time where history is being re-written, it is important to amplify stories that are often overshadowed. I am thrilled to host an event with community leaders and veterans to celebrate and honor these historic women,” said Rep. White. “Events like this ensure that future generations understand the courage and sacrifice of these women. Their story reminds us that history is richer and more powerful when every voice is acknowledged.”
