Rep. White Celebrates House Passage of HB 284

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Erika White (D-Springfield Township) today celebrated the passage of House Bill (HB) 284 in the House (91-0). This bipartisan bill, jointly sponsored by Rep. Mark Hiner (R-Howard), requires that iron that is produced in the United States be used on certain projects supported by state funds. This is in addition to existing requirements that those projects use U.S. produced steel and extends penalties for failure to comply.
“Made in America still matters because the American workers who make it still matter,” said Rep. White. “House Bill 284 is about more than steel and iron. It is about the people behind them, the workers. When we invest in American-made materials, we invest in American workers. And when we invest in American workers, we invest in stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger Ohio.”
“For generations, working people have built this state, strengthened our communities, and powered our economy,” Rep. White continued. “House Bill 284 is one way we continue investing in the people who build, make, move, and power Ohio every day.”
HB 284 awaits a referral to a Senate Committee.
